Historic Times!

I was driving to my job, listening to the news updates on the radio, I found myself pounding the steering wheel, with an excitement similar to that of listening to the play-by-play of a baseball game just as a 450-foot blast comes off the bat in the bottom of the ninth during game 7 of the World Series..... Sandra Day O’Connor decides to retire from the Supreme Court. My excitement was focused and directed at the great opportunity our President has to nominate a "strict constructionist" of the U.S. Constitution as a judge on the Supreme Court. How cool! I know this makes me sound kind of like a political geek! But as we approach the 4th of July, anything that turns my focus back to our greatness as a free society, the first true democracy in the world, lights a fire inside and reassures me that all the stuff going on around us truly means something to me, my family, my community, and my country. This time and place is all part a plan. One that allows us to continue the pursuit of freedom everyone yearns for on this blue rock called Earth spinning with coordinated grace around the Sun. A place whos' existence can only be explained as being created with some kind of intelligent design.

This Time, this pinnacle in history has such enormous significance that every waking anxious moment I wait for the next exciting chapter to be written. There is a grand fight going on. Forces are drawing lines in the sand. People are being rallied to their causes. The difference between Good and Evil, Right and Wrong are becoming more defined. Even the radical middle and the moderate gray can no longer hide. Exciting! You bet!

This Time has so much to watch and learn. If you could convert this time into a spectator sport or a fantasy league the intrigues and maneuvering would blow your mind. It’s like watching a game with 20 players playing full contact Chess with a board the size of a football field and 500 positioned pieces or each player.

We as a nation have seen extremely significant moments in history. Grand times, terrible times, crazy times and historic times, But this time has it all! It is a time to watch, listen, learn, be involved, fight, love, give, pray and dream. When you sit there tomorrow and you watch those large explosions of fireworks in the night sky. Remember that this time is your time. Your time to do great things. The examples are there. We stand on the shoulders of greatness. It is our duty, our privilege, our turn to protect the ideals and principles that so many have given so much. It is our turn. Freedom is not Free. Greatness comes from ordinary individuals doing extraordinary things.

Have a great 4th of July.
